Grenada Hash House Harriers Diary

Hash #778 The Container Birch Grove St Andrews

If it was at all possible hashing in Grenada just got better. Yesterday "Cow Tail" took us up in to the hills. To Birch Grove in the parish of St Andrews. The venue was called The Container. Why because it consisted of a container of course. You probably would not look at it twice during the week as it is basically a mechanic's yard but yesterday it was transformed in to the perfect hash venue. Inside the container as well as a bar and pool table they even had their own nightclub!! With many hashers arriving early and many students getting ready for their last hash everyone was eager to get going but as ever we have to have all new shoes blessed and welcome our first time hashers, virgins. Then it was off in to the hills and yes "Cow Tail" sent us out on a trail "Double Entry" had used earlier this year and yes the hill was just as bad. Then he took us off in to the bush. A great trail except for one thing we ended up running through a farmer's field which is a no no. Thanks to " Peak Freak" making a rare appearance and the hash police they managed to re route the trail to avoid it. Back at base and the river soon filled with aching bones of hashers and letting the river ease the pain and of course out came the child in each one with great fun had by all. Then it was off to start the fun and deal with the many misdemeanors that are taking place nowadays. One hasher signed "Crisis" in under John John. Now this we had to deal with and a down down was the penalty after the hash court found him Guilty as charged. One new name yesterday. I can't exactly say what for but Tracey Joseph got hash christened "Back Door". Then it was time to say goodbye to all the students who were on their last hash yesterday. I know the hash to many is an important source of respite from the studies and it was sad to see them leave but not before they were given a collective hash name as they posed for a photo destined for the archives. The name "LIAT for good". Leaving Island Any Time. Of course we gave them a little something to see them on their way. :-) With the drink flowing and plenty of good food still on offer it was time to get the music going and have a real party. Can we beat that well not sure but we are going to try. Next week we are in Victoria and having done the walkers trail I know their is nothing to worry about leaving you to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of St Marks. The runners trail and Iron mans trails are a little harder as you would expect. The venue is the brand new Chocolate factory a great location steeped in Grenada's rich history. Look out for full details very soon. In the mean time enjoy the long weekend. I'm off to ease my aching bones. ON ON

"Short Arse" = Short trails.
But you know they were not all that bad passing by that very nice river then bursting out right on to the beach. We are blessed at G3H with hares who are prepared to go the extra mile to not only find good trails but also great venues.

Yesterday The Carnel in Ballies Bacolet was just that.
Set right on the main road and yet enough room to house all of us and more. I think the food was good well at least it pleased one of our birthday girls and she always moans about the food.
With the Carib on ice the party started to get underway and then to start on the work of the Hash police who are finding all sorts of errant hashers and trying to put them on the right path.
We had two names to give out first up was Jay Dubya aka Jimmy Woodward.
Now this is a guy who, along with his family, have been in Grenada for three years and has done a lot for the hash in that time. They are due to leave on Monday and so we had to say goodbye but not before he got his hash name. He would have got one earlier but he never does anything wrong until we learned of the time he was following an elderly lady hasher, yes we do have one, up a steep hill and he gave a helping hand in the middle of her backside.
Thanks "Granny Grabber" for all you have done. Hurry back.

Next up was our good friend Richard Strachan. Now we had to insure we got a good name for him and we managed to get some info from a secret source of the day his wife brought in a guy in to teach the children how to make and fly Kites. Nothing wrong you say but then you find out it was 3pm on a Saturday or Hashurday then it changes. Having pleaded with his wife to let him go to the hash and failed he then proceeded to take no part in helping his children make a kite and indeed sulked all afternoon till 5.30 when hash was done.
"Addicted Kite Runner" carry your name with pride.

Cant forget about the three hashets that celebrated birthdays at yesterdays hash. Including "Doggie Style" and "Foot Fetish" who has now reached three score years. Congrats to you all and here's to many more.
The Hash court was in session and the matter of the burning of the hash paper on Saturday morning before it was set out was the cause. After hearing the case set out by Police Commisioner "SSUseles" the accused stated his plea of not guilty this was accepted and he in turn accused the owner of Carnel.
To her credit she pleaded guilty and the punishment was handed out in the "Dotty Potty"!!!! With the DJ getting the music and sound just right the party went on for some time. With smiles on everyone's faces it was easy to see why Grenada is the best place to go hashing.

If I have not already mentioned it Carriacou hash is taking place on the weekend of 27th-29th September and our 800th hash is on Thanksgiving weekend which is 25th - 27th October.
Plan not to miss either of these two .

Next week we are in Birch Grove with "Cow Tail". He has promised some great trails and a fantastic venue.
Full details will be out when I have them. Off to a meeting with the hash in mind today then on to join the birthday celebrations that are still on going from yesterday.

What ever you do have a great Sunday and do not work to hard this next week. ON ON

hASH #776 Founders Hash

Yesterday was all about remembering or finding out about our roots. It was a pleasure to see so many faces from a different era in G3H. The Tower is a beautiful setting for any hash but it truly was the perfect setting for our founder's hash. It is the home of our founder,Paul "Rigor Mortice" Slinger and his wife, a past Hash Mistress, Victoria " Quick Draws" Slinger, They very kindly opened the doors of the Tower yesterday for anyone to take a look and why not it is a magnificent building. So what better place to hear all about 1985 the year the madness all started. I got a chance to speak to Peter Frearson who brought hashing to the Caribbean and introduced Paul to hashing who intern infected Grenada. The more I hear the history of HHH the more I feel privileged to be a small cog of a well oiled machine that just keeps running. The trails yesterday were part of other trails we had done before but despite knowing the area we still managed to hold up the runners long enough to get them coming back at the same time ish. The area is very beautiful with many wild flowers around and a backdrop of the magnificent views of the South West of Grenada it proves the saying that in Grenada their is a great view around every corner. Once again we had a lot of visitors to the hash and we hope you had a good experience. The trails were not difficult by our standards so you would think that our medical team and "Sweat" team would not be needed. Wrong!!! First we had a very seasoned hasher call me requesting a ride back as he had twisted his ankle. OK that can happen anytime. Just got him back and yet another call for help. Another twisted ankle. At the same time as another seasoned hasher was showing me his lack of skin on his arm and knee. This all happened seconds before yet another seasoned hasher announced his 6 year old Granddaughter was missing. Hello what was going on. We got the twisted ankles back and sat them side by side like a couple of bookends each with ice packs the arm was cared for and thankfully the 6 year old turned up. Then it was time for some hash fun and we had a lot of things to get through including some court cases for offenses that have been committed during this or previous hashes. We also had a hash name to give out. This was a special one as Esther Noel was on Hash #1 so we gave the details to our Grand Inquisitor, he who can do know wrong, aka "Joy Boy". He is good at this and he did not lets down. Ester you may not hash nowadays but you can now wear your name with pride as " Original Sinner". Thanks to all the blasts from the past for coming along. The stories were in full swing late last night and it was great to hear. Thank you Paul for everything you have done for the hash and for allowing us the use of the Tower yesterday. Now I have to mention some dates for your diary . On the weekend of 27th - 29th September we are off on our annual trip to the sister isle of Carriacou. Then the following month we have our 800th hash and this will be held on the weekend of 25th - 27th October. As we all know this is Thanksgiving in Grenada so we will be having three days of fun. More details on both of those very soon. Next week we are in Bailies Baccolet with "Short Arse". Hopefully he has learned and we have a nice length trail waiting for us. As he helps many other hares I feel sure that he will not be short of helpers returning the favour. Details as soon as I have them. I think we have all earned a restful Sunday. Enjoy whatever you're up to . Till next week. ON ON
